One man in scripture stands out who was self-righteous to the point of self-destruction: King Saul. Pride deceives us into thinking we can live life on our own. The farther King Saul removed himself from God, the more independent he became.

Christ humbled himself to the point of death, death on a cross, for you. He came to serve, not to be served. Is this your attitude or do you have a prideful heart?
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
